To the Editor,
Surely the issue with NFL player protests is whether the national anthem is a sign of national unity, or a great opportunity for political protest.
It appears that Mr. Nikkel agrees with most in mainstream media that using this solemnity as a means of protest is tolerated in part because it was, supposedly, against racism. (Weyburn Review, September 27, 2017)
But is racism the only sin that excuses protest during the national anthem?
What about kneeling during the anthem to protest the newest sin … discrimination against transsexuals? Or old ones like abortion? Or just the newer high taxes on personal corporations?
One needs to ask, where are we going with this?
The media, in their effort to criticize everything Trump, seems to have lost their objectivity.
