To the Editor:
The community of Weyburn should be proud of the efforts of so many in welcoming the three Syrian refugee families during the past year. We gave to them a safe place to begin their new life in Canada.
While the families have recently moved on to other parts of Canada, they will always be grateful for what we were able to do for them here in Weyburn. They know that this was a community-wide effort and they are very appreciative of the many friendships made here during the past year. We wish them every success in their new lives in Calgary, Edmonton and Hamilton.
On behalf of the Weyburn Syrian Refugee Committee, we would like to express our thanks to everyone in the community who has been involved in the project, whether as a donor of money, clothing or household items, as a driver to English classes or shopping or medical appointments, as a visitor to make them feel welcome or as a member of the Committee. Also we extend a special thanks to local media for their positive reporting on the project throughout.
To celebrate the success of the project, we are inviting all people who have contributed in any way to attend a potluck supper to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. at Grace United Church.
