WEYBURN – Local police were called to a Weyburn hotel this past week following reports of an altercation between two women. According to police, one woman allegedly assaulted the other without provocation.
The suspect, a guest at the hotel, initially refused to leave her room and was described as highly agitated. Officers de-escalated the situation, and the woman eventually surrendered without further incident. Weyburn Police Service confirmed that the two individuals didn’t know each other, and the motive for the assault appears to be related to mental health concerns. No charges have been laid at this time.
This is the second serious assault at a local hotel in the past month. On June 17, officers responded to another violent incident at Weyburn hotel, where a woman was found with significant injures. An adult male suspect was arrested nearby after resisting arrest an faces numerous charges, including assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, assault by choking, two counts of assaulting a police officer, assaulting a guard, four counts of resisting arrest, uttering threats, and mischief under $5,000.
Weyburn police responded to nine mental health-related calls over the week. Charges were laid in one incident, while all other occurrences were resolved peacefully.
The Weyburn Police Service responded to 75 calls for service for the week of July 6 to July 13.
