Team chemistry is a big part of championship teams, and for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, that bond is evident in the offensive backfield. Quarterback Trevor Harris and running back A.J. Ouellette built their bond driving to Saskatchewan from Ohio prior to the 2024 season, and their relationship continues to grow. However, you may not know it from the outside looking in. Like Ouellette's refusal to play video games with Harris' oldest son T.J., who routinely whooped him last year.
“I got that sorted out only because I don't play him anymore. I just come up with something else like we'll go watch a game or do you want me to go buy ice cream, something like that, so I can stay off the controller because he'd whoop my butt probably,” Ouellette said.
And after the game, Ouellette and Harris have started a ritual of tackling one another during post-game interviews. Oullette explained their latest battle on the 620 CKRM Cooperators Rider Broadcast Network post-game show.
“You all saw me sumo him out of the circle after the game, right? Ouellette asked Justin Dunk.
“I was going to say we couldn't see it on TSN, but did you tackle Trevor Harris or did he tackle you?” replied Dunk.
“No, I took him out. I took him out. But I got to yell at him right now because I was all padded up, mouthpiece in, and then I realized last second he didn't have his helmet. So I didn't want to get kicked off the team hitting him with my helmet. So I had to take my helmet off real quick” Ouellette said.
Ouellette, Harris, and the Riders are in Calgary Saturday to take on the Stampeders.
