The Canadian Football League's preseason wraps up tonight with four games on the field. The games are a balance between preparing for the season and evaluating your roster. Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Mace knows that tough decisions are coming tomorrow with cuts looming.
Mace knows it's just business, and he doesn't give up on players, as seen when the team released Noah Zare and re-signed him just days later.
“With this camp, I thought it was tough, man. We enjoyed our depth. And Noah's a perfect example. Someone had asked me the day after, and I said, 'Look, we still think highly of the kid.' It's just the way that it shook out. So, we give those guys a heads up, because we've seen it a ton, you know, specifically here and certainly around the league. You're one injury away from being on the roster, you know what I mean?”
“So, for Noah, it was easy for him because he was local. But, for us, we needed a good Canadian offensive lineman, and we know what he is, and we still believe he was that. Just the timing wasn't the greatest for us and him at the time, but now the story's changed, and he came right in like he never left.”
The Riders take on the Bombers tonight, and you can catch all of the action on the 620 CKRM Cooperators Rider Broadcast Network.
