The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added veteran American running back Ka’Deem Carey to their roster.

The 32-year-old Carey was released by the Toronto Argonauts earlier this month during the Argos' final roster cuts.

In 2024, Carey earned all-star honours after starting all of Toronto’s 18 regular-season games last year, rushing 191 times for 1,060 yards, with seven touchdowns, while adding 37 receptions for 356 yards and one TD.

The five-foot-nine, 215-pound back was initially selected in the fourth round, 117th overall, during the 2014 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent parts of four seasons with the Bears before moving to the Canadian Football League in 2018, where he joined the Calgary Stampeders.

The Tucson, Arizona, native has played 62 CFL games, rushing 683 times for 3,915 yards, an average of 5.7 yards per carry, with 26 touchdowns. He has 127 receptions for 1,088 yards with two touchdowns.

Carey has two Grey Cup rings, two West Division all-star nods, one CFL all-star selection and one East Division all-star nomination in his career.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0) are back in action on Saturday, June 14, when they travel to Hamilton to take on the Tiger-Cats (0-1). Game day coverage on the 620 CKRM Co-operators Rider Broadcast Network begins at 2 p.m. with the Countdown to Kick-off.
