YORKTON AND AREA RESIDENTS came out in full force in support of the recently held JDRF Walk to raise needed funds for Juvenile Diabetes research. Each year more than 45,000 people across Canada gather in support of the cause that affects more than 246 million people worldwide.

With the help of loyal customers and employees, Royal Ford is giving back to the community in substantial ways. Last Sunday the dealership presented a cheque for $7,500 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

"This has been a really rewarding experience for everyone involved," comments Terry Ortynsky, owner of Royal Ford. "It has enabled our employees and our customers to contribute to a great cause, and to give back to the community."

Royal Ford employees have spent the past six weeks running a series of events including a relay from Canora to Yorkton, sneaker sales in the dealership, a huge garage and bake sale that drew more than 400 visitors, a bottle drive, and more. All employees of the dealership participated in some aspect of the fundraising initiative. And on Sunday more than 65 per cent of Royal Ford employees and their families took part in the JDRF walk.

"We want to thank the Royal Ford team for all the work they've done to raise funds for this campaign. It's really impressive that so many members of the Royal Ford leadership group and their employees have joined together to raise money for type one diabetes. They have also played an important role in helping to raise awareness of the disease in Yorkton - public awareness is critical to the ongoing support required to fight this disease," says Randy Durovick, JDRF Fundraising Coordinator, Saskat-chewan.

Ortynsky says he and his employees decided to support JDRF because it plays such a key role in the lives of many children and families, and because many Royal Ford families have been touched by the disease.

"It's such a difficult disease for children to deal with. We thought this was a way we could work to get to help families deal with it. It is really exciting to see that so many of our employees and their families have been involved with this initiative, trying to make a difference for children and families with this disease."
