Photographers in the Yorkton area will soon be getting a new way to showcase their work. The Godfrey Dean Art Gallery is launching the Serpentine Gallery, in order to give local artists a space to show their photos.
"There are so many great photographers in Yorkton and really nowhere to exhibit the work," explains Don Stein, executive director of the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery.
The new informal presentation space is on the second floor landing. It is named after the famous Serpentine Gallery in London, it takes its inspiration from the long angular atrium corridor.
"This is a way to offer an informal but still very professional presenting environment," Stein says.
The next step is to get local photographers to submit work to the gallery. Stein says the process is simple, so long as people get in touch with him at the gallery and the work is at the same level as the rest on display, the images will be put up in the gallery. He also says that the plan is to keep the gallery up as long as there are people interested in displaying their photos.
Stein says with the number of people in the area taking interesting photos and putting together an accomplished body of work, it is time to give a place for people to show that work.
