M.C. Knoll School scored another first recently. Grade 7/8 phys. Ed teacher, Mark Schendel, says it's not very often a school staff can proudly welcome an Olympian into their building. M.C. Knoll welcomed Raman Grewal from Indian who was at the school to teach youngsters field hockey skills.

Grewal, who was a member of the Indian national field hockey team at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, led the team at the following 2000 games in Sydney, Australia as national team captain.

Grewal, who is currently working as a technical director of field hockey for the Saskatchewan Field Hockey Association, (SFHA) was at M.C. Knoll to teach basic field hockey skills to youngsters at the school at the behest of the SFHA.

The Association has conducted sessions at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall in the past, Grewal points out he will return regularly to train people interested in the sport in the Yorkton area. The objective is to promote field hockey in the city and the province.

Because of the climate, field hockey can be played indoors and the skills can transfer to the outdoor game, Grewal states.
