The final human and financial toll of the Sunrise Health Region (SHR) radiology review will soon be made public.

Sunrise advised media last week it had completed reviewing 68,390 exams originally interpreted by radiologist Dr. Letsebe Darius Tsatsi and planned to make the outcome public by the end of June.

Communications dir-ec-tor Sharon Tropin says notifications were sent to all patients, and their doctors, covered by the review outlining the outcome of the second interpretation by the end of May. However, not all letters have yet reached patients, so Sunrise is holding off making its final report.

"Some patients have moved from the last known address and their letters have been returned to the Health Region," Tropin says.

"The Region is undertaking a final attempt to reach these people."

When it's released at the end of this month, the project summary will draw to a close the review, which lasted about 13 months and could cost approximately $5 million.
