SHHS Sr. Saints battle to top place

The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) Senior Saints boys basketball team continues to play some excellent ball with a gold medal tournament win in Weyburn and a fifth place finish out of 16 teams at Superhoops in Lumsden.

The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) Senior Saints boys basketball team continues to play some excellent ball with a gold medal tournament win in Weyburn and a fifth place finish out of 16 teams at Superhoops in Lumsden.

The Saints swept the Weyburn tournament winning all three games to claim the gold.

SHHS started the sweep with a 69-54 win over Regina Johnson Collegiate. Mark Kuemper led the attack, scoring 25 points in the game.

The Saints steamrolled the host team, Weyburn by a score of 94-68. Kuemper led the way again, recording 15 points in the game.

In their final contest, the Saints won 68-34 over Moosomin. Logan Coutts tallied 16 points to lead the scoring attack.

Superhoops, co-hosted by Balgonie and Lumsden High School featured 16 teams.

Sacred Heart opened with a 64-32 win over Melfort. Top scorer Dalen Brueckner led the way.

SHHS came up against a strong Lumsden squad which claimed an 81-63 win. Preston Liebrecht led the scoring for the Saints with 17 points.

The Senior Saints rebounded to squeak out a very tight 77-75 win over Regina Christian School. Mark Kuemper claimed the scoring title for SHHS with 33 points in the game.

SHHS Saints won their fourth and final game 66-56 over Shaunavon to finish fifth overall. The scoring leader in the game was Justin Genaille with 14 points.
