I’ve written a number of times about how I feel people in certain positions, if committing certain crimes, should be held more accountable than others. Well, over the weekend it was revealed the Deputy Premier and the Minister in charge of Liquor and Gaming has been charged for DUI. Now, Don McMorris isn’t yet guilty, although his announcement over the weekend does appear to be somewhat of an admission. Should McMorris be found guilty, I feel the penalty for a guy who’s job is to regulate liquor and has been found guilty of abusing the substance should be greater than the average joe. This is, exactly, the kind of example when I say police need to be held to high standards so they don’t abuse power, priests/teachers/coaches who are guilty of sex offenses, etc. should be given stiffer penalties than others and so on and so forth. If you have a job and it’s revealed you have committed a crime related to that position, then I think the penalty needs to be more severe. If McMorris was in charge of finance, I wouldn’t think the penalty needs to be as strict. However, if a finance minister ever was guilty of stealing money, then I’d suggest very harsh sanctions. I hope this makes sense to those reading. I’d also say a DUI shouldn’t result in McMorris losing his seat in caucus. Deputy Premier and his Minister position, yes. But he should be welcomed back into the Sask Party group when the matter is concluded.
Shallow Canadians have been on cloud nine with the recent pictures that have emerged of our Prime Minister shirtless. Apparently in one photo, Trudeau emerged from the wilderness and spoke to a young boy. In another pic, he looked like he was wearing a partial wetsuit as he photobombed a wedding ceremony. Bravo. Of course, the Liberal CBC media made sure to report that Trudeau is ‘off duty’. Thanks. I’m curious as to when is this guy ‘on duty’. Here you have a guy lobbying for politicians to have a four day work week and he’s already got more holidays than the rest of us. Oh well, it’s what Canadians want or else he wouldn’t have this sky high approval rating. I know the unemployment rate is at a five year high but did you see Trudeau without a shirt? Canada 2016.
The Toronto Star posted an interesting story last week about a man who committed multiple murders in Nova Scotia, then crossed the border into the United States and committed more murders. His trial in Canada resulted in not guilty, as you can imagine, as he was deemed to be mentally ill. In the States, however, he was very much guilty and the judge said if the death penalty was legal in that particular State, that’s what the sentence would have been. Canadians are outraged and shocked at the lack of sensitivity shown by the justice system from our neighbors to the south. I’m not sure if Canada will have success bringing him back into our country or not, but we have lots of people here so if he kills a few more while trying to rehabilitate himself, we won’t really notice will we?
I attended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers game last week, the one that was delayed for over 2 ½ hours due to extreme weather (thunder, lightning, heavy rain). I have to say the facility is excellent to watch football and it was nice to sit there and stay dry during the rain. Once the game got underway though, I couldn’t help but notice that Bomber organizers committed three politically incorrect sins. The anthem singer said ‘All Thy Sons Command’, the kissing cam contest featured only heterosexual couples, and they honored the ‘men’ and ‘women’ of the military. They left out those who are not men or women. Fortunately, this game wasn’t played in Ontario otherwise there may have been a riot over this.
Speaking of football, the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost again and they found a new way to do it. Their kicker got hurt during the walk through the morning of the game. So they had to parachute some other dude in and he was brutal in the first quarter, costing the team valuable points. I’m convinced that the coach doesn’t matter. There are just some teams meant to not win no matter what and the Riders are one of those teams. How else can you explain repeated botched snaps from center, consistent failure on short yardage downs, kickers getting hurt during a light practice, and other weird things that help the Riders lose the way only the Riders can? I have to say, though, that there isn’t a single aspect of this team that has shown improvement through five games. They are every bit as bad now as they were in week one.
Is it just me or are the Olympics not as interesting as they used to be when it was easier to watch them? I liked knowing I could tune in to CBC or NBC and they’d have it all. Now, it’s scattered across half a dozen channels and I never know what’s coming up. Although Sunday night, four channels all had the same thing. What’s the point?
Nice person mentions this week: Ryan Duthie, Amanda Chambers, Angie Zuravloff, Trevor Kerr, and Mark Nickolayou.
