Yorkton Council has declared Agriculture Week in the city.

Council passed the resolution at its regular meeting Oct. 9 following a joint request made on behalf of the Yorkton Exhibition Association (YEA) and the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.

In making the request JeanAnne Teliske, manager with the YEA said, “whereas the agriculture industry significantly impacts the economy of the City of Yorkton with over 60 businesses directly involved in serving the farming and ranching community; and whereas it is estimated that for every job in the agriculture industry another seven jobs are generated in the economy,” the week was warranted.

In conjunction with the week which will be Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, the YEA will hold its 29th Annual Harvest Showdown November 1 – 4.

Council was unanimous in recognizing the week.
