Yorkton Council has declared Nov. 1 to 8 as Agriculture Week in the city.
They were unanimous in the declaration at their regular meeting Monday, following a request made by Juanita Polegi on behalf of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce and Yorkton Exhibition Association.
“Whereas the agriculture industry significantly impacts the economy of the City of Yorkton with over 60 businesses directly involved in serving the farming and ranching community; and whereas it is estimated that for every job in the agriculture industry another seven jobs are generated in the economy; and whereas the Yorkton Exhibition Association will hold its 27th annual Harvest Showdown November 4 – 7, the Yorkton Exhibition Association and the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce respectfully request that City Council proclaim the week of November 2 – 8 Agriculture Week in the City of Yorkton,” said Polegi in making the request.
