Grain Millers Harvest Showdown kicks off today in the city.

The 29th annual edition of the event began this morning with the Farm Fitness & Finance – Finding a Balance Seminar presented by SaskCanola in the National Bank Financial Convention Place. JeanAnne Teliske, manager with the Yorkton Exhibition Association noted the seminar is taking a new approach with presentations on mental health for farmers, and how to best assess the value of land.

Also new for the year will be the Saskatchewan Clydesdale Association Breeders’ Cup which will be held following the EMW Heavy Horse Pulls in the Farrell Agencies Arena at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The horse pulls will also go at the same time tonight (Wednesday).

The always well-attended Grain, Forage & Seed Show Awards Reception in the National Bank Financial Convention Place which marks the presentation of awards for the annual grain show will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Also returning will be the Yorkton New Holland RODEO in the Farrell Agencies Arena, with shows both Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with the Marcia Griffith Trick Riders presented by the Painted Hand Casino as special entertainment. The trick riders will perform throughout the four days of Harvest Showdown.
