Area museum group gathers in Canora to discuss future direction

The meeting was hosted by the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum and took place in the Canora CN Station House Museum.

CANORA - The East Central Seneca Root Museums Association met on May 21 in Canora.

According to a report from Dorothy Korol of the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum, the former network structure was not working but the Seneca Root group of museums chose to continue meeting.

The Parkland Valley Sports Culture Recreation (PVSCR) volunteered to lead the plan. The meeting was hosted by the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum and took place in the Canora CN Station House Museum.

The meeting was led by Darla Batke and Wendy McLeod, with museum representatives in attendance from: Melville, Yorkton Brick Plant, Preeceville, Canora Ukrainian Heritage, Kamsack Power House, Pelly Fort  Livingstone and Doukhobor Heritage museums.

“The Program was presented by Darla Batke and Wendy McLeod of PCVSCR and featured possible future partnering options and grant resources,” said Korol.

In the afternoon, Tameson Playford of Sask Culture provided further information on the SaskCulture Musems grant and also ways of including reconciliation in area museums.

Museums presented information on their plans for opening and programming for the summer.

“The group is planning is to have another meeting in the fall with other community groups included,” said Korol. “Sounds like an active fun summer!”
