Badminton season brings success for Canora students

Canora Composite School badminton players bring home impressive medal haul from area tournaments

CANORA — Canora Composite School student athletes have been at or near the top in numerous area badminton tournaments in recent weeks.

The CCS junior badminton team travelled to Invermay and had a very successful tournament on March 24. CCS medal winners included: Ty Sleeva won gold in boys’ singles, Falyn Ostafie took silver in girls’ singles, Ava Love and Makayla Heshka captured gold in girls’ doubles, and Connor Kraynick and Tucker Mydonick brought home the gold in boys’ doubles.

The CCS senior badminton team travelled to Melville on March 28 for a tournament, where the boys’ doubles team of Logan Lewchuk and Tomas Hauber won gold.

CCS hosted a badminton tournament on March 31, and CCS participants were on their game.

Both senior boys' doubles teams advanced to the final match. In an all-CCS final, Tomas Hauber and Logan Lewchuk won the gold medal, while Brendon Landstad and Lane Zuravloff placed second.

Other CCS students who excelled during the tournament were: Zoe Thomas and Dawson Zuravloff advanced to the semi-final match for mixed doubles; Matthew Dmitruik advanced to the senior boys semi-final match; and Kailey Sleeva filled in as the second CCS girls singles player and advanced to the semi-final match as well.
