Blessing reminds graduates to ‘Be your own greatest cheerleader’

Pastor Mavis Watson told the Canora Composite School graduates, “The light is green! So keep going no matter what. Trust that life will bring you companions to walk this path with you, to cheer you on, to encourage you, and to help you when you need it."

Pastor Mavis Watson gave the blessing to the graduates, reminding them that God has some amazing things planned for each and every one of them.

CANORA- Pastor Mavis Watson expressed her gratitude to the graduates for inviting her to give the blessing at their graduation.

“I count it an honour and a privilege to be here with you this afternoon and like the many family and friends gathered here, I look forward to what the future holds for each and every one of you,” said Watson. “I am certain it will be beyond anything anyone imagined.

“This afternoon as you stand at the crossroads of leaving your youth behind and moving forward into your adulthood, you stand in the place of possibility and promise. Your future has not been written for you here on the earth yet. But something exciting to realize is that it was written for you in Heaven a long time ago!

“According to Psalm 139 in the Bible, King David stated that God had written a book about each one of our lives, before any one of our days had even been lived. In this book, God wrote His desire for each one of us and according to what Psalm 139 says, God’s thoughts about us are precious and vast .... they cannot be numbered. That means He has some really amazing hopes and plans in store for you and me. That should excite us.

“There is a well-known Christian author and speaker by the name of Graham Cooke. Graham says that in God’s kingdom the light is always green. And yet we so often live our lives like the light is red.

“What he means by that is that we live our lives overly cautiously, concerned about whether we should dare to move forward or just say ‘No’ to our dreams altogether. We might feel this way because it seems our dream is too big for someone like us to achieve. Maybe we feel like we don’t have the backing of family and friends or the encouragement that we desire, and so we may lay aside the very thing we most want to do.

“Sometimes, we give up too easily and we are not willing to fight for our dream, it seems too hard to achieve. Of course it’s always easier when we have people in our corner. But I want to suggest to you this afternoon that the one person you most need, to believe in you, is yourself.

You will always be your own greatest cheerleader and you can even become your own hero.

“The Good News is that there is an invisible, hidden support system in place for each and every one of us. There always has been. And that support system is God.

“He believes in each and every one of us. He wrote the book on us and wants nothing more than for us to reach our highest and greatest, and became our very best selves. He is always in our corner and He is in your corner today.

“The light is green!

“Don’t live your life like it’s red and you’re just waiting for it to change. You have God’s seal of approval and if you will ask Him, He’ll let you in on what He wrote in that book of yours. He will be there to help you to achieve it. And when you have, He will be the one cheering at the end of your finish line and handing you your prize.

“There will be obstacles in the way, don’t let them alarm you. Let those obstacles become opportunities, steppingstones for you to climb the ladder of success in your chosen vocation and your life ahead of you.

“So keep going no matter what. Trust that life will bring you companions to walk this path with you, to cheer you on, to encourage you, and to help you when you need it.

“That’s the part that God plays the best in all of this. So trust Him.

“And so again; live your life like the light is green; remember that God has a plan for you and it will always be the best plan; and don’t forget there are more for you cheering you on than against you.

God bless you, congratulations and Godspeed. The future is yours, go and make yours happen! Amen,” concluded Watson.
