Canora RCMP: Driving stunts in Mikado reported to police

This brown truck was photographed spinning its wheels and throwing rocks which struck the outside of the RM of Sliding Hills building in Mikado. Canora RCMP are looking for assistance from the public to identify the driver.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 41 calls from July 10 to July 17, some of which included:

  • one 911 Act call,
  • one abandoned vehicle,
  • one animal call,
  • one Coroners Act call,
  • one disturbing the peace,
  • one false alarm,
  • one Firearms Act call,
  • one fraud,
  • two harassing communications,
  • one Liquor Act call,
  • one lost and found,
  • three Mental Health Act calls,
  • one mischief,
  • one sexual assault,
  • four suspicious persons calls,
  • one theft of truck,
  • one theft under $5,000,
  • two traffic collisions,
  • 11 traffic offenses,
  • two uttering threats,
  • two wellbeing checks, and
  • one prisoner.

Truck mischief

On July 15, the Canora RCMP investigated a mischief call in Mikado. Multiple incidents have been documented where tire marks have been observed on the roadway with rocks littering the sidewalk outside the RM of Sliding Hills building in Mikado. A man driving a brown truck was caught on video on June 12 spinning its tires causing rocks to strike the building. Canora RCMP are asking the assistance of the public to identify the man.

Not how to treat your mom

A woman called the Canora RCMP on July 14 reporting her son walked into her home and took a drink from the fridge. When the caller asked her son to leave, the son threatened to burn the caller’s house down. The investigation is ongoing.

Sleepy driver rollover

The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 9 south of Canora on July 14. Police attended the scene and learned the female driver reported falling asleep and drove into the ditch. The driver had minor injuries and was treated on-scene by EMS. The investigation is ongoing.

False crash notification

On July 12, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to an iPhone crash notification on Highway 9 north of Canora. Police called and spoke with the phone’s owner who explained they forgot their phone on the roof of their car and drove off causing the crash notification.

Railroad track trouble

The Canora RCMP were dispatched on July 10 a report of a woman shoveling rocks off the railroad tracks south of Canora which caused an approaching train to stop. The woman refused to leave when asked by railway employees. Police attended the scene, but the woman was gone upon arrival. A woman suspect has been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
