Canora/Sturgis RCMP reminds residents to make sure the doors to their homes are securely locked to help prevent break-ins and thefts.

CANORA/STURGIS - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 40 calls from October 14 to October 21, some of which included: three traffic accidents, six provincial traffic offences, 12 other provincial statutes, one harassment/threat, one assault, one theft, two mischiefs, one break and enter, and six other incidents.

Semi mishap

On October 15, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision involving a semi truck north of Usherville. The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries and the semi was deemed not driveable. Through investigation it was determined that the semi driver pulled to the shoulder of the road to give passing vehicles more room, when the rear tires of the semi went off the road and pulled the trailer and truck into the ditch. The semi and trailer were towed and the road was eventually cleared for travellers.

Locked doors important

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded on October 15 to a report of a break and enter in Canora. Police attended the residence and found one of the doors unlocked. Police cleared the residence and found no evidence to suggest that someone was inside of the residence. Through investigation, it was determined that the owner lost their keys and could not securely lock the residence. Police want to remind the public that it is extremely important to ensure that your residence remains locked.

Speeder caught

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP found a vehicle doing 143km/h in a 100km/h zone on Highway No. 9 north of Canora toward Sturgis on October 15. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the speeding vehicle drove off the road and into the ditch. The driver did not sustain any injuries; however, they were asked to provide a breath sample which yielded a negative result. Through investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was unregistered. The vehicle was towed accordingly, and the driver was issued violation tickets for speeding and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Residential mischief

On October 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of mischief at a residence in Canora. The complainant reported that people were banging on the residence window and were screaming and yelling. Police attended, however the subjects were no longer outside of the residence and could not be located.

Vehicle vandalism

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a vehicle being damaged in the RM of Preeceville on October 20. The vehicle’s window was smashed, the fender, a door, and the front bumper were removed, and the vehicle’s battery was also taken.
