Canora/Sturgis RCMP activity report: Dog chase

Police received a report of a dog on the loose chasing people on bikes in Canora. The owners of the dog were located and the dog was returned home.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 106 calls from July 29 to Aug. 11, including a stolen bike in Canora. A suspect was located and arrested for the theft. The bike was recovered and returned to its owner.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 106 calls from July 29 to Aug. 11, some of which included: three thefts, three 911 Act calls, 47 traffic offences, one failure to comply with conditions, one fraud, seven other provincial calls, three impaired operation calls, one uttering threats, two wellbeing checks, two Mental Health Act calls, three false alarms, four mischiefs, two Controlled Drugs and Substance Act calls, four suspicious persons, and 23 other provincial/municipal calls.

Impaired collision

On July 30, an impaired driver was reported to the Canora/Sturgis RCMP travelling northbound from Yorkton to Canora on Highway 9. The vehicle subsequently hit a post along the highway by Gorlitz rendering the vehicle inoperable. Police attended the scene and arrested the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle over 80 mg per cent. 

Dog bite

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on July 31 to a report an off-leash dog had bitten an adult in Canora. The dog was located and returned home to its owner.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a dog on the loose chasing people on bikes in Canora on Aug. 3. The owners of the dog were located and the dog was returned home.

Stolen bike

On Aug. 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report that a bike was stolen in Canora. A suspect was located and arrested for the theft. The bike was recovered and returned to its owner.

Drug bust

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 5 to a business in Canora that reported a male paid for fuel and that a bag containing an illicit substance was found attached to a 10-dollar bill. On Aug. 6, police located the suspect male driving a vehicle south of Canora on Highway 9.  A subsequent vehicle stop resulted in the arrest of the male for possession of a controlled substance. Police searched the vehicle and seized a large quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cannabis, and Canadian currency. Two males were charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both males were remanded into custody to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.

Flying lanterns

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call about lanterns flying over the complainant’s property on Aug. 6. Police followed up with the complainant and the matter was able to be resolved without further police involvement.

Fishing and drinking

On Aug. 6, Yorkton Traffic Services checked a group of anglers fishing at Good Spirit Lake. Open alcohol was located and a male was issued a fine for having, giving or consuming beverage alcohol in a place other than a private place.

Thefts

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 8 to a break-and-enter in the RM of Sliding Hills. Unknown subject(s) broke into the basement of the residence and stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked outside the home. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of another residence that was broken into in the RM of Sliding Hills on Aug. 8. Two wooden stoves and electronics were stolen from the residence. Public intoxication

On Aug. 8, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated male laying in the middle of Norway Road in Canora. Police attended and arrested the male for being intoxicated in a public place.

Probation violation

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a vehicle stop on Aug. 9 for a speeding violation on Highway 5 east of Canora. The driver was arrested for having contact with a passenger which was a violation of his probation order. The driver was charged for failing to comply with his probation order and released on an undertaking for court in Canora.

Intoxicated golf cart driver

On August 10, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a golf cart. Police observed open liquor in the golf cart and the driver was found to be impaired. The driver was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle over 80mg per cent.
