Canora/Sturgis RCMP activity report : Hot car

RCMP received a complaint in Canora involving a female pouring gasoline over a vehicle and unsuccessfully attempting to light it on fire. She fled the area prior to police arriving. A suspect was identified, arrested and charged with mischief.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 29 calls from May 26 to June 2, including a report from B, C. claiming his ex-girlfriend took his Jeep to Sturgis and he wants it back. The vehicle was determined not to be stolen and further action was not required.

CANORA/STURGIS — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 29 calls from May 26 to June 2, some of which included: two 911 Act calls, four mischiefs, one theft, two Mental Health Act calls, seven traffic offences, one animal complaint, two failures to comply with probation, one uttering threats, one criminal harassment, one fraud, one taking motor vehicle without consent, and six other provincial situations.

On May 27, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report from a complainant in British Columbia reporting his ex-girlfriend took his Jeep to Sturgis and he wants it back. In consultation with the British Columbia RCMP the vehicle was determined not to be stolen and further action was not required to locate the vehicle.

Hot car

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint in Canora on May 28 involving a female pouring gasoline over a vehicle and attempting to light it on fire. The female was unsuccessful with igniting the gasoline and fled the area prior to police arriving. A suspect was identified, arrested and charged with mischief.

Enthusiastic swimmers

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP followed up with a complaint of teenage girls climbing the fence and trespassing at the Canora Pool on May 29. Two suspects were identified and were given a verbal warning by police.

Copper cable caper

On May 30, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a metal theft from a work site in the Buchanan area. Copper cables were cut and removed from machinery. This is the second theft in two weeks from the same area. 

Metal thefts are on the rise in the area and the Canora RCMP are requesting members of the public to report any suspicious activity, especially at abandoned farmyards and construction sites. If anyone has information on who is responsible for the metal thefts or where the metal is being taken to be sold, please contact the Canora RCMP or you can also report anonymously via Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Severe consequences

On June 1, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint in the Canora area for a female breaching a condition of her probation order by possessing and consuming alcohol. The female was arrested by police and remanded into custody.
