Lacrosse Excitement
Sturgis Lacrosse is underway for the 2022 season with age groups ranging from 6U to 19U, including a pair of girls’ teams. Practices began on May 4.

The Sturgis Lacrosse organization is happy to announce that another season of lacrosse has kicked off with its first practice held on May 4.

“I am excited to announce that the snow is going on the lacrosse field, and we will be beginning practices on May 4 and we have 112 players registered to play.” said Kristen Peterson, representative from the organization. Practice times are Mondays and Wednesdays at the Sturgis Composite School grounds on the lacrosse field.

Coaches for the season are: Frazer Will (6U), James Johnson (8U), Craig Folk, (10U, 12U and 14U), and Conrad Peterson (16U and 19U). Nicole Korpusik and Kristen Peterson will be instructing the 12U and 19U girl teams with a total of 32 players registered.
Other coaches assisting are: Ryan Hauber, Cory Babiuk, Brad Cameron, William Hauber, Shae Peterson, Zane Bayer, Riley Erickson, Mason Babiuk, Toby Olynyk, and Xage Miraflor.

“With spring being late getting here, our season is not that long. We have decided to do things a bit differently this year. Coaches of each team will decide what festivals their team will attend. They will communicate this on TeamSnap,” stated Peterson.
Provincials for 19U, 16U, and possibly 14U are being held in Prince Albert once again, coming up on June 17 and 18.

Sturgis will be hosting a tournament on May 14. Other festivals that the teams are scheduled to attend include June 4/5 in Yorkton and June 11/12 in Saskatoon. Games will also be scheduled with Yorkton, Churchbridge and possibly Esterhazy.

“I am excited for the season to get started and to see the fields filled with players. Thank you to all the coaches who are offering their time to coach. Our club does not run without you! We are always welcoming of new people wanting to learn, so if interested just let one of us know,” concluded Peterson.
