CANORA - A Common Thread Quilting and Needlecraft Group, with members from Canora and surrounding area, hosted a quilt show on Aug. 14 at the Canora United Church as part of Community in Bloom Week, which included demonstrations of quilting and needlework.

Group member Janet Hill said, “We brought our sewing machines for people to learn to quilt as well as do needlework.”

In addition to Canora, group members also hail from Rhein, Crystal Lake, Good Spirit and Canora Beach.

Membership numbers vary from year to year, with 13 members in 2024.

“We meet on Fridays at the United Church to work on our projects,” said Hill. “We usually have from eight to 10 people participating each week.

“Newcomers are always welcome, we’re always happy to have new people get involved.”

Group members displayed their colourful finished quilts at the quilt show.

A Common Thread makes a habit of supporting a charity each year, and in the last couple of years have made quilts for Ronald McDonald House.

The group receives funding from Sask Lotteries, which is utilized to hold classes that help members learn new techniques.
