Rama Co-op marks 80 years serving local farmers, community

Rama Co-op celebrated its 80th anniversary July 29, highlighting decades of agricultural service and community support.

RAMA — As a salute to its long legacy of being an integral part of the Rama and area community, Rama Co-op celebrated its 80th birthday on July 29 at the R.C. Hall in Rama.

Prior to the event, the Rama Co-op board of directors, management and staff sent out an invitation to “cordially invite past directors, managers and staff and all members to celebrate 80 years of business.”

Glenda Jeffrey, agro manager for Rama Co-op, said they are “always changing to keep up with agriculture for today, tomorrow and the future.

“We sell agricultural products such as bins and grain handling equipment, cardlock, canola and forage seed, crop inputs, bulk fuel, fence posts and supplies, feed products, propane bulk and tank refills, assorted hardware, oil and grease, lumber and much more.”

The Rama Co-op staff includes four full-time employees and one part-time employee, with an agrologist on staff to support farmers with crop diagnostics.

“We have shared services with Wadena Co-op: general manager and OH&S manager,” continued Jeffrey. “We have bulk fuel shared services—dispatched and delivered with Norquay and Gateway Co-op at Preeceville. We have bulk oil shared services with Prairie North Co-op at Kelvington.

“We host summer crop tours. Harvest time bags are delivered in the field.”

Helping out in the community is an important part of the identity of Rama Co-op.

“We support local community groups in our trading area as part of our business goals,” concluded Jeffrey.
