RCMP Report: Intoxicated driver found in possession of sword

Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a traffic collision in the RM of Sliding Hills, where an intoxicated male passenger in the vehicle was found in possession of a sword. The male was on conditions not to possess weapons.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, including a report from a male in Preeceville that people were in his attic. Police investigated the complaint and determined the male was suffering from a medical condition and he was later taken to the hospital.

CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, some of which included: one 911 call, two assaults, one breach of peace, two frauds, one impaired operation, one Mental Health Act call, three mischiefs, one other federal call, 11 traffic offences, and one wellbeing check.

Impaired driver?

On Jan. 26, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an impaired driver with children in the vehicle driving around Canora. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Expensive deception

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a fraud on Jan. 30. The victim lost approx. $8,000. Police continue to investigate.

Beware of fraud

A resident of Preeceville received a call on Jan. 30 from a male claiming to be her grandson and needed $5,000 to be bailed out of jail. The grandparent scam involves the caller claiming to be in trouble and requesting money right away. The caller will exploit the generosity of the grandparent by pretending to be a grandchild in trouble and in need of money. The caller will ask for money for transportation from a foreign country, medical treatment or bail money.
