The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation announced the three top winners in its fish art work competition with the top two winning entries coming from Preeceville School.

Eric Dodge, a Grade 6 student, won first place, followed by Hallie Petryshyn, a Grade 4 student, who placed second.

The third-place winner was Laryssa Haapala of Outlook.

The winners each won a fishing rod and tackle bag. Colin Masko, representative from the Preeceville branch, made the presentation on June 23.

The contest ran from April 1 to May 31 and was open to Saskatchewan students in grades 4 to 6. Submissions could be in colour or black-and-white, painting, drawing or pastels. All drawings had to feature native fish species that included: walleye, yellow perch, lake trout, northern pike, lake sturgeon and Arctic grayling.

There were a total of 350 entries from 13 schools across the province that were submitted for judging at the Federation’s main headquarters in Moose Jaw.

"Judges looked for accurate drawings that were close to what the actual fish looks like in its natural environment," said Doug Gibson, a SWF representative.
