Elevate your home chef game at Lorne’s Butcher Block

Did someone say bacon?

KAMSACK - In celebration of small business week, The Kamsack Times has selected Lorne’s Butcher Block of Kamsack as the feature business for 2021.

For those who have spent time living in the city, coming back or making a new home in rural Saskatchewan might have you longing for the boutique style businesses that sold wholesome, high caliber products in urban centres.

The good news is – that same quality product that urban hipsters go crazy for can also be found in charming small towns across Canada that are even closer in proximity to the local farms that masterfully raise that premium product. A fine example is Lorne’s Butcher Bock.

Stepping into the butcher shop located at 524 - Third Street, Kamsack, the interior looks much bigger than expected. Inside, the wide open store is sparkling clean and bright. Behind the glass display is a large selection of fresh cut meats, as well as prepared bacon, deli meats, sausages, pepperoni and jerky. The front of house also features a section of frozen foods, fresh baked goods, and unique condiments like pumpkin pie flavoured honey – aimed to inspire locals who have been watching a lot of cooking shows and are ready to elevate their own skills.

Store manager, Jessi Woytkiw, shared how the local business prides itself in offering quality, local products at competitive prices.

“We only serve AAA certified meats,” explained Woytkiw. “Maximizing quality at a reasonable price is the secret to our success.”

The business is the only local provider to offer their custom version of chicken, lamb, and pork Shishliki year-round.

“It’s a very popular item,” shared Adams. “We like to always have some on hand, but it sells so quickly that sometimes it is difficult to keep up.”

Another big seller is dog bones.

“The amount of dog bones we sell – it’s crazy,” said Jessi.

The boutique storefront is also the place to find some amazing complimentary products to elevate any kitchen. These mouth-watering add-ons include items like Vesla’s International Kitchen sauerkraut and sauerkraut seasoning, spices, Saskatchewan-made Boreal Heartland teas and dried mushrooms, and BR Honey Products.

Meat packs

Lorne’s meat packs are customized to your budget and preferences when ordered. They are also sold through an online auction out of Yorkton. These auctions occur once or twice each month.

Wild meat butchering

While Saskatchewan is a beautiful province for big game hunting, most people don’t have the time, the tools, or the space to butcher their deer, elk or moose. Lorne’s Butcher Block is happy to process your wild game.

Smokie line-up

With a line of smokie flavours including Onion & Cheese, Barbecue, and Dill Pickle Kraut, Lorne’s Butcher Block recommends figuring out which is your favourite with a side of perogies and sauerkraut. Those who enjoy breakfast for dinner on occasion are invited to try Lorne’s custom fried bacon, onion and cheese flavoured smokie.

Plan your visit

Lorne’s Butcher Block is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
