Glass installation company ready to expand after only 15 months

“We want to keep growing and developing. First, Kamsack, and then we hope to spread our wings.” - Kenworth Peters

KAMSACK — It has been 15 months since he opened Sek Glass and Kenworth Peters has already decided that Kamsack is home for his family and he is dedicated to help the community grow and thrive.

Living in Kelvington and travelling to work at a glass shop in La Ronge, Peters came to Kamsack after his wife Sehlile, a dental therapist, was hired to work at the Kamsack Dental Clinic.

“We came here. I saw a need and opened within a month,” Peters said, adding that although he has not yet advertised his business, he is “busy enough.”

Working from a 700-square-foot shop at the rear of the former Todd Plymouth Chrysler building on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard, Peters said he already needs about three times the space in which to work.

“Our company is expanding,” he said, explaining that when needed, his wife, who is “the engine behind the company,” helps, as does his son.

“I’ll be looking for a couple more employees,” he said, adding that he is willing to train people to work at Sek Glass.

Born and raised in Dominica, an independent island nation in the Caribbean, which was once part of the British Commonwealth, Peters came to Canada 11 years ago and began working for Speedy Glass in La Ronge.

“Customer satisfaction is our greatest asset, that’s what we aim for,” he said. “If it’s glass, we do it.

“We can do everything, including vehicle, residential and commercial glass, and that includes glass for farm equipment and for mobile units,” he said, adding that he is able to do ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibrations, which are required when glass is replaced in vehicles where cameras are used.

Sek Glass customers come to him from a large area, including communities between Kamsack and Kelvington, and from Swan River and Roblin in Manitoba.

“We’re very competitive in pricing. No one has said I’m overpriced,” he said. “In fact many customers have asked ‘how do you make money?’”

Although his posted hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, he has worked for jobs on Sundays and is available by phone (306-220-3540) almost anytime. He can also be reached at sekglass.ca.

“I try to keep a job done within a week.

“We want to keep growing and developing,” he said. “First, Kamsack, and then we hope to spread our wings.”
