The Kamsack and District Horticulture Society will be hosting a adjudicated show of flowers, fruits and vegetables on Aug. 12.

KAMSACK — After a two-year hiatus forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kamsack and District Horticulture Society is planning an adjudicated show of flowers, fruits and vegetables.

The show will be held at the Kamsack Seniors Centre on Aug. 12, said Alva Beauchamp, treasurer for the society. The decision was made by members during a meeting on May 25.

The show will be held much like it has been held in the past and will include a tea and Chinese auction, she said. A judge has yet to be selected.

This will be the first show since 2019, Beauchamp said.

Along with the show will be a display of the photographs that will have been entered in the Society’s calendar photo contest, she said. The photos judged the best will be used in the 2023 calendar and the persons who took the top three pictures will receive prizes of $75, $50 and $25.

The theme of the competition has yet to be decided, she said. Deadline for entries is the end of July.

During the meeting, members were told that the concrete bench for the urban orchard is expected to arrive soon and will be placed near the sign at the western entrance.

Members agreed to place planter boxes near the new sign at the Kamsack Public Library and will plant flowers in them and tend to them during the season.

“We’re always looking for new members,” Beauchamp said, adding that currently the society has a paid-up membership of about 30.
