RM of Cote describes public consultation as “a success”

The RM Council shared a breakdown of the costs of maintaining the roads and bridges

KAMSACK - The RM of Cote #271 held a very successful open house on Wednesday, March 30, in Kamsack. The main focus of the event was to engage in discussions with local ratepayers and get their opinions and suggestions on a variety of topics including primary road and bridge usages and future levels of service.

“Our main objective during the open house was to have discussions with our ratepayers on what roads and bridges are most important to them,” said RM of Cote #271 Reeve Kim Pennell. “The information we collected during the open house will be used to help our council make future maintenance, repair, and budget decisions.”

The community engagement session attracted over 50 participants who happily shared their thoughts and experiences on culverts, road maintenance, current haul roads, and the potential use of road allowances.

It was also an opportunity for the RM council to share the actual breakdown of current costs of maintaining the roads and bridges as well as the potential replacement costs of future major equipment purchases.

“Our event was a great way to engage directly with our neighbours and stakeholders and hear first-hand what is important to them,” added Pennell.

The RM is also providing an option for feedback for those who were unable to attend the open house. The presentation materials and a survey will be added to the RM website in the very near future.
