YORKTON — The Good Spirit School Division is in the midst of a busy summer of school upgrades, renovations and other projects.

In an email to Yorkton This Week and SaskToday, facilities manager Patrick Morrison said Dr. Brass School in Yorkton is undergoing a basement renovation to support band, as well as the visual and performing arts academies. Damaged concrete steps are also being replaced at the main entrance, along with the concrete walk on both sides.

A library renovation is underway at MC Knoll/St. Michael’s, funded in partnership with Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools. The project includes new flooring, paint, lighting, window treatments and a relocated circulation desk.

At Columbia School, new asphalt will improve drainage around portable classrooms, and a path has been added to the north entrance.

The Yorkton Regional High School’s mechanics and welding shop is receiving new LED lighting to replace existing fixtures.

In other communities, a classroom renovation is happening at Churchbridge School — Year 2 of a four-year project. Five main-floor classrooms are receiving new paint, flooring, lighting, cabinetry and a teaching wall. The kindergarten room is getting new cabinets, and the second-floor corridor will be renovated. A sensory space will also be added to an upstairs classroom.

Churchbridge School is also replacing a damaged concrete sidewalk from a barrier-free parking spot to the west entrance. Once complete, both entrances will be barrier-free.

Saltcoats School is in Year 2 of a three-year classroom renovation, upgrading three classrooms with similar work as in Churchbridge. Its main entrance sidewalk is being repaired and made barrier-free.

Canora Junior School is installing a barrier-free swing and outdoor learning area, featuring a grain bin-style gazebo and rubberized asphalt foundation.

Victoria School in Kamsack is expanding its parking lot by relocating barrier-free playground access and adding a concrete berm to separate sand and parking areas.

At Langenburg Central School, jersey barriers and a gate will limit shop area access and direct traffic to the parking lot.

Springside School is adding a wall between the library and art room to create classroom space, along with a new student support office.

Grayson School’s main corridor is being refreshed with new paint, and Macdonald School in Stockholm is replacing broken concrete with asphalt at the north entrance.

Norquay School is adding washroom facilities in the junior wing and upgrading a senior staff washroom to create an additional student washroom. An office and base for a cultural room are also being added.

Phone system upgrades have been completed at YRHS, Columbia and Saltcoats, and duct cleaning has been carried out at Yorkdale, Victoria, Springside and Preeceville.
