100th birthday

Earle and Nina Moller flew to London on Aug. 16 for a 10 day visit with their daughter Heather Moller and Jeff Beck. While they were there Jeff and Heather celebrated their 25th anniversary at home with a BBQ supper for family and a few close friends. A highlight of the evening was viewing an album of memories, a gift from their family. It is interesting to note that the album used for the pictures was a wedding gift received by Nina & Earle 63 years ago. Also attending the get together were their son Chad Yaremko and Erin Lepic of Toronto, Daughter Hali and Jordan Blake and grandsons William from London, Ont, Son Cian Beck of London now living in Vancouver and Heather's sister Sherry and Al Moller Chatigny of Maple Ridge, BC. Congratulations Jeff & Heather from Dubuc & Community.
Vic Arnott, formerly of the Maple Street Manor in Esterhazy recently moved to the Lakeside Manor Nursing Home in Saltcoats. Diane Horachek recently visited with her Dad and reports he is settling in an enjoying his new surroundings.

Paul & Pearl Flaman of San Antonio, Texas stopped overnight last week on Friday & hosted a wiener roast at Nielsen's to see as many former friends and neighbors as they could gather. They were heading home the following day.

Sat., Sept. 4 coffee row was very well attended. Out of town guests were Paul & Pearl Flaman who brought donuts to treat everyone and John Talbot of Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy who enjoyed visiting with the regulars. John missed very few coffee sessions during the last few years before he moved to Esterhazy. Everyone was happy to see him and the Flamans, so a whole lot of visiting went on that morning.

Eva (Kopetski) Carlson and Roland Westman motored from Penticton, B.C. to spend the weekend with her sister Mary Forsberg. They all travelled to Esterhazy to see another sister, Judy Talbot in Sumner Place and John talbot in the Centennial Care Home. Monday morning they continued on to do more visiting with Saskatchewan relatives before returning home.

Joan Wilson went to Regina on August 19 to have lunch with an old school friend. They spent a wonderful afternoon reminiscing and catching up on their lives. They hadn't seen one another for 52 Years.

Vivian Talbot accompanied by her sister Chris Topliss of Yorkton motored to Sandy Beach on Katepwa Lake Saturday afternoon to visit with their Aunt Betty (Skene) and Johnny Huber & cousins Bill (Marilyn) Huber and Barbara Huber.

Joan Kerr travelled to Unity to visit her Mom, Katie Schell & sisters Kathy & Laurie of Unity and Betty of Olds, Ab.
Velma Perkins of Selkirk, MB was down to visit her sister Sharon Clark for a few days. They travelled to Strasbourg to do some visiting & toured the valley while she was here.

John & Joan Wilson motored to Shaunavon to spend a few days with daughter Maureen and Barb. Did some sightseeing in the Frenchman River Valley. They then moved on to Mazenod to visit daughter Brenda and Gord. They report a great week of wonderful weather and enjoyed their visits.

Recent visitors with Gladys and Len Simle were granddaughter Rachel & Shane Wagner & family of Mcnutt.
Mary Nagy attended the wedding of her sister Katie Rieger's grandson in Regina on Aug. 27.

Approximately 30 people attended the potluck supper on Sept 14 at the Hut. Visitors were Rosemarie & Lesia Baker of Calgary who are visiting with Ron & Melba McAlpine and Rhonda and family, and Ed and Marg Oldham of Regina. Ed Oldham won the 50/50 and Doug Morley took home the door prize.

Jessie Stokes celebrated her 100th birthday recently at the hut. She was born Aug. 16, 1911 in Lumsden, SK, the 4th of six children born to Christopher & Ethelwyn Scott. In 1933 she came to the Dubuc district to teach at Sprucedale school and married a local farmer, Harry Stokes in 1939.

They had one daughter, Glenda. In 1948 they retired to Dubuc and Jessie was asked to teach Room 2, grades 4-8. During this time Jessie organized and led a CGIT group, taught Sunday school, served on the United church board and UCW, led a 4H homecraft club, and helped to organize Community College. In 1959 Jessie was asked to teach grades 7 and 8 in Melville. She retired from Melville in 1972. In later years Jessie joined Rebekahs & Seniors.

During summer holidays Jessie and Harry enjoyed many nice camping trips to the mountains.

Harry died in 1981 and Jessie continued to live in their home until Oct., 2009 when she moved to Bangor Lodge. In May 2011 Jessie went to live at St. Paul Lutheran home in Melville.
