OUTLOOK — A Saskatoon band had the people dancing this past weekend at the iconic Bounty Theatre in Outlook.

With groups of people spread throughout the hall and others dancing in front of the stage, the success of the event raised one question: have those famed Saturday night dances of yesteryear found a way to return to the hall in 2025?

Relatives of those who attended the dances in the tiny village of Bounty generations ago have certainly heard the stories, and many recall the gleam of fondness in the eyes of those who tell them. The Bounty Theatre hosted regular Saturday night dance events, giving people from across the region — Bounty, Conquest, Dinsmore, Milden, Macrorie, Ardath and Outlook — a chance to let loose.

On Aug. 16, Saskatoon rock group Godwellhaze — Todd Godfrey, Dave Welsh, Brad Hayes and Dean Boyle — provided the soundtrack, inspiring handfuls of people to get up and dance, while others reminisced and caught up with family and friends.

Owing to the theatre’s history and the community it served, the band also performed an original song that reflected on times of war from past generations.

The event also acted as a benefit for the theatre, said organizer Gary Joyes, with proceeds helping cover the cost of installing heating in the building.
