The Health Foundation is going back to its roots with a Grecian theme for its 15th Annual Gala Night. The foundation will partner with Yorkton and area's Greek community to bring "A Gala Evening in Greece" to life on Saturday, October 23 at St. Mary's Cultural Centre.

"Our very first gala was also a Gala Night in Greece, so this anniversary has a special significance for us," said Gala Committee Chair Diane Rusnak in a released statement.

The organizers' aim is to create the most authentic Greek experience possible for gala guests this fall, said John Stamatinos, treasurer of the Yorkton-Melville Greek Community.

"You've all seen how the Ukrainian population celebrates events with Ukrainian dancing and what-have-you. Well, we're going to do the exact same thing. We're going to celebrate Greek dancing, and we're going to celebrate Greek food."

A selection of traditional dishes, many of which are not even available in Canadian Greek restaurants, will be served amid an atmosphere set by extravagant Greek music, costumes, and decorations.Seating at this year's event will be limited to 350 people, divided into tables of eight. Tickets cost $100 each, and can be ordered immediately from The Health Foundation office at 41 Betts Ave. or by calling 786-0506.

The gala's seats are likely to sell out quickly, cautioned Rusnak.

Proceeds from the night's ticket sales, sponsorships, and silent auction will be used to purchase surgical equipment for the operating rooms in Yorkton's Regional Health Centre.

"We're very happy that we're participating in such a good cause," said Manos Tsagouris, president of the Greek Community. "We'll be very pleased to see a lot of people there and everybody happy with the evening."
