His Honour the Honourable W. Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, hosted the 2018 Saskatchewan Literacy Awards of Merit on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Regina, SK at Government House. The Saskatchewan Literacy Awards of Merit acknowledges the exceptional dedication by Saskatchewan citizens, organizations, and businesses in supporting literacy and essential skills in our province.
“I am grateful to the Saskatchewan Literacy Network for celebrating the excellence and generosity displayed by the impressive recipients,” said Lieutenant Governor Molloy. “I congratulate everyone who has been recognized this year, and thank those who have empowered people by giving them the life-changing gift of literacy; I also commend the recipient of the Literacy Leaner Award for her courage and determination to improve her literacy skills – you are inspiring, indeed.”
Phaedra Hitchings, Executive Director for the Saskatchewan Literacy Network said, “The literacy and essential skills work being done in this province is shaping a positive future for our communities. By recognizing some of the individuals and organizations undertaking this vital work, we are honouring that which has already been done and encouraging further efforts.”
Awards were presented to individuals and organizations who displayed outstanding efforts in promoting essential skills development in learning and literacy.
The 2018 Saskatchewan Literacy Awards of Merit recipients are:
Professional Leadership in Literacy Award – Michele Smith (Moose Jaw)
Volunteer Service Award – Peggy Bacon (Regina)
Volunteer Service Honourable Mention – Rebecca Duncan (Estevan)
Business Leadership Literacy Award – Terri Sewell, Spark Creations & Bookings (Saskatoon)
Cameco Literacy Learner Award and Bursary – Baya Khettab (Regina)
