January has been declared "in Motion Month" in Yorkton, and the Department of Community Development, Parks and Recreation is offering a variety of programs to encourage active and healthy lifestyles and personal wellness.
"It is important to families in Yorkton to stay healthy and connected with our community", said Director Darcy McLeod, "What better way to give everyone the chance to have some fun and physical activity together."
"As physical fitness is important for all our citizens," said Councillor Les Arnelien, "I fully support this program."
Saskatchewan in motion is a province-wide movement aimed at increasing physical activity for health, social, economic and environmental benefits. To keep it simple, their purpose is to help people move more! Saskatchewan in motion's vision is that the people of Saskatchewan will be the healthiest, most physically active in Canada.
The Gloria Hayden Community Centre is offering free access to the walking track all month. There are BOGO "Two for One" racquet court rentals until Jan. 31! The free court rental needs to be used at the time of purchase so bring a friend along to share in the fun. Also, you can take part in "Cure Family Cabin Fever" on Sat., Jan. 7 and Sat., Jan. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m., with free, fun, family activities in the gymnasium.
Starting Mon., Jan. 9 through to Sun., Jan. 15, there will be free walking in the Flexi-hall at the Gallagher Centre. On Sun., Jan. 15, there will be a free "family swim" from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
On Tues., Jan. 10, come to the Wellington West room, Gallagher Centre, for more information at the Active Living Luncheon, with local Active Living Champion, Jason Gordon from 12:00 - 12:45 p.m. He has truly "walked the talk" and is making sure that there are opportunities for our youth to stay active and healthy. There are a limited number of tickets available at City Hall, 2nd floor for $15.00 each. Tickets must be purchased by Monday noon, January 9.
