Indefinite remand

A man facing four counts of possession of stolen property and several firearms-related charges will remain in custody indefinitely following a hearing February 11. Lucius Kowaski, appearing at Yorkton court by video from Regina Correctional Centre Monday, elected trial at Court of Queen's bench by judge and jury.

The defence told the Court they would be requesting a bail review in the near future, but in the meantime the judge scheduled a preliminary hearing for September 4 and remanded Kowaski until then.

Plea delay

A plea in the case of a B.C. man charged with trafficking cocaine in Yorkton has been delayed another month following a request by the defence for more time to review the evidence. Davi Estrada was busted in a Yorkton RCMP sting January 16 along with four other people. He is currently back in B.C. on $3,000 bail and is now scheduled to enter a plea March 11. The other suspects were released on a promise to appear in Yorkton court March 4.

Assault trial set

A Yorkton woman charged with assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose pleaded not guilty in Yorkton court Monday. Alicia Hine will be tried for the alleged offences July 24.

Theft trial set

A Kamsack man facing theft, illegal use of credit cards and possession of stolen property charges has pleaded not guilty. Michael Keshane elected Monday to be tried by judge alone at Court of Queen's Bench. The trial has been set for July 24.
