A man accused of kidnapping an 11-year-old girl from the Yorkton Exhibition earlier this month remains in custody following his arrest last week.

Melvin Dale Koroluk, a 57-year-old Yorkton man, was identified as the abductor by the victim of the alleged incident when she spotted him walking down a street in the city. The girl alerted her mother, who called police.

Koroluk was charged with kidnapping and assault, as well as unsafe storage of firearms based on a search of his home. Police have stated that additional evidence led to the arrest, but have released no further information.

Koroluk appeared in court on July 12 and was remanded into custody.

The arrest stems from an event on July 6, when an 11-year-old girl claimed to have been lured into a car by an older male at the Yorkton Exhibition and driven several miles out of the city. She was found by police walking through a field north of Yorkton some hours later, and explained that she had escaped from the vehicle unharmed.
