Alleged child abuser remanded

A 22-year-old Cote First Nation man accused of severely beating a two-month-old child has been remanded in custody until October 10. Levar Shingoose appeared in Yorkton Court September 4 on charges of aggravated assault and contempt of court.

Defence duty counsel consented to the remand on behalf of the defendant.

The appearance relates to a July 29 incident when Kamsack RCMP responded to report of a severely injured two-month-old child at Kamsack hospital. Due to the nature of the injuries, police immediately began an investigation with the assistance of Yorkton and Regina Forensic Identification Sections, Yorkton, Regina, and Saskatoon General Investigative Sections, and Prince Albert Polygraph Section.

On August 27, Shingoose was arrested for the alleged assault.
