Paul Townsend, a 28-year-old Yorkton man accused of cocaine trafficking, will face trial.
At a preliminary hearing April 29, after hearing Crown evidence presented by federal prosecutor Trent Forsyth and cross-examination and arguments by Regina defence attorney Sharon Fox, Judge Patrick Reis decided there was sufficient evidence on three of four charges to warrant trial.
Townsend elected to be tried by judge alone at Court of Queen’s Bench.
Following the pre-trial, Fox requested a bail hearing arguing for her client’s release pending trial.
Townsend has been remanded at the Regina Correctional Centre since his arrest in October 2015.
Forsyth opposed his release and Reis agreed denying bail.
Townsend also faces several breach charges. Those were adjourned to be spoken to November 8 in provincial court.
A trial date on the three remaining trafficing charges is yet to be set.
