Former Yorkton resident and accused serial killer Clayton Bo Eichler will face a jury of his peers.

Eichler, 34, appeared in Regina Provincial Court November 2 for what was scheduled to be a two-week preliminary trial in the murders of Kelly Goforth and Richele Bear. Before the pretrial started, however, the Crown requested the matters go directly to trial and the defence consented.

In September 2013, 21-year-old Goforth’s body was found in a Regina industrial area dumpster. Police arrested Eichler for Goforth’s second-degree murder on December 24 of that year. While in custody, police charged Eichler with first-degree murder in the disappearance of Richele Bear, 24, and upgraded the Goforth charge as well.

Eichler also faces aggravated sexual assault and overcoming resistance by choking charges in the 2012 rape of another 24-year-old woman who was allegedly left unconscious behind a Broder Street property in Regina.

Police charged him with that crime in December 2014.

During the Monday appearance, the defence elected trial by judge and jury in Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench. A date is yet to be set.

Meanwhile, Eichler remains under suspicion in the March 2013 disappearance of another Regina woman, Kim Cruickshank.
