Mac's Robbery
Police tape cordones off the scene of an armed robbery Tuesday morning, the second at the Mac’s convenience store on Smith Street in less than three months.

The Mac’s convenience store on Smith Street has once again been the scene of an armed robbery.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on the morning of March 15, a lone male entered the store brandishing a knife, threatened the overnight employee and demanded cash.

The clerk turned over a small amount of cash to the suspect who fled on foot westbound on Smith Street.

The employee was not injured during the robbery.

The suspect was wearing a mask and a black hoody and grey sweat pants.

It was only in December of 2015 the last time the store was robbed by also at knifepoint. One adult, James Brow of Swan River, and one youth who cannot be named were later charged with that crime.

In June 2011, Jimmy Wiebe lost his life when an armed robber shot him to while he was working the overnight shift at the same store. His murder led to changes in provincial legislation for overnight workers and improvements to the local store’s security systems.

The store was shut down well into the day on Tuesday while police investigated.

Anyone with information on the current robbery is asked to contact the Yorkton Municipal RCMP at (306) 786-2400 or Crime-Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
