Plans for the new Parkland College trades and technology campus are still under way and Monday at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council amendments to two City bylaws received first reading to help facilitate the planning.
The amendments were to the Municipal Development Plan Bylaw and the Zoning Bylaw.
"The College is beginning the process to develop vacant land on Dracup Avenue for a trades and technology campus," detailed a report circulated to Council. "This city-owned land will be developed as the trades and technology campus by the College."
In order to accommodate the proposed use, the Municipal Development Plan must be amended from its current designation of Commercial to Institutional
And in order to accommodate the proposed use, the Zoning Bylaw must be amended from its current district of C-3 Highway Commercial to IN Institutional.
"The bylaws will come into effect when it receives approval by the Ministry of Government Relations. Given the time it will take to develop the lands, the proposed bylaws should in no way delay future development within the subject lands," stated the report.
