A young artist would like to turn a small bridge of Yorkton Creek in the Riverside Terrace area of the city into a work of art.

Kristin Boychuk sent a letter to the City of Yorkton which Yorkton Council referred back to Administration at its regular meeting June 13. In the letter Boychuck said there was graffiti showing up on the bridge and she was volunteering to cover it with art.

Boychuk said while she actually lives on Spice Drive, she, her father and sister walk over the bridge regularly. She said graffiti doesn't fit the natural setting of the bridge.

"It's kind of distracting of everything else going on here," she said, adding the bridge is generally part of a "really beautiful area."

Since the setting is a natural one, Boychuk is not looking at doing a traditional image on the cement bridge. Instead she explained she wants to use the individual cement slabs with each being painted a different, but complimentary, colour. A geometric pattern in white would flow over the entire side.

"It's more of an abstract," she said, adding she wants it to be complimentary to the surrounding and not "taking away from the rest of the bridge surroundings It would just be lines and shapes."

For Boychuk the mural would be a summer project doing something she loves.

"I just finished my first year in arts education," she said, adding she hopes one day to be an art instructor.

Boychuk said doing the mural would be a contribution to the community.

"It would be nice to have some more art in the community," she said.
