Sunday Afternoon, Sept. 29 was Culture Days Open House at the Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre. Saskatchewan Arts Alliance brought its button making machine that was fun for old and young alike. Monique Martin built bird nests with the kids.
There were film screenings from Yorkton Film Festival and music and popcorn smells filled the air. The high point of the afternoon, however, was the opening of Monique Martin's exhibition "Nest-Nest Egg-Empty Nest. Martin is a mult-disciplinary artist working in printmaking, clay, sculpture and pastels. She is, also, a noted art educator who divides her time between Saskatoon, Ottawa and Vancouver. Yorkton Western Development Museum celebrated Canada-wide Culture Days Saturday.
The museum opened up their doors for free admission &, also, screened videos from the Yorkton Film Festival. Culture Days is a collaborative Canada-wide volunteer movement that is raising the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
