Assault charges

The RCMP has confirmed social media chatter that a man was paralyzed in an assault at a local nightclub September 24.

In the early hours of that morning, police responded to a complaint at the City Limits Inn. Kim Madsen, 30, was arrested and charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. He was released on a recognizance that includes conditions of abstaining from alcohol, not being present in places that sell alcohol and having no contact with the victim.

The victim, Dennis Peepeetch, a 41-year-old Little Bone First Nations man, was transported to Yorkton Hospital then transferred to Regina. Police would only say his injuries were “serious,” but according a gofundme campaign launched by his family, Peepeetch remains in hospital in Intensive Care struggling to breathe on his own and without the use of his lower body.

The campaign has raised more than $2,000 to date.

The incident precipitated a vitriolic Facebook thread on a local webpage including threats of retribution and misinformation about the police and justice system not taking action.

Madsen is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court October 26.
