A World we Have Lost

Saskatchewan historian Bill Waiser has said researching his latest work was challenging because of all the unconventional sources he had to consult.

It was well worth the challenge as the book took home the 2016 Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction, one of the most prestigious honours in Canadian literature.

A World We Have Lost: Saskatchewan Before 1905 chronicles the provinces history prior to confederation in rich detail based on indigenous stories, archaeology, anthropology and scientific studies.

Waiser will be in Yorkton tonight at the Yorkton Public Library for a reading starting at 7 p.m.

Waiser has published more than a dozen books and is a specialist in western and northern Canadian history. He is a former University of Saskatchewan professor who served as department head from 1995 to 1998. In addition to the Governor General’s Award he has received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the University’s Distinguished Researcher Award, the Saskatchewan Book Award and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
