Award deadline

The deadline for submitting nominations for the Celebrate Success Business Awards has been extended by one week to January 27. Nomination forms are available from the chamber office or the Chamber website at www.yorktonchamber.com.

Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Chamber is not concerned that the deadline has been extended. "We have had many inquiries about the nomination process and several people have indicated they intend to nominate one or more businesses," she said. "I think the original deadline was just too close to the Christmas break so people have not yet turned their attention to the Awards."

Amie Zamonsky, Chair of the Celebrate Success Committee agrees that the community is interested in the Awards but the time lines were too tight. "I believe that by extending the deadline for receiving nominations, we will see an increase in the number and quality of the nominations," she said. "There are so many businesses deserving of recognition that we want to be sure sufficient time is allowed for the nominations to be submitted."

The Celebrate Success Business Awards Gala is held only every 2 years. "There is no 'next year'," said Polegi. "The Awards will not be offered again until 2014."

Zamonsky indicated the criteria has changed on some of the awards; the name has changed on another and a new award has been added. "I suggest people visit the chamber website or call the Chamber office for a description of the awards," she said. "The committee believes the changes will engage more people and make the awards more meaningful."
