A 50-year-old Yorkton man accused of assaulting a police officer has been released from custody.
Michael Winter was about four months into a six-month term of probation when he allegedly entered the municipal detachment of the RCMP and caused a disturbance. When an RCMP member attempted to subdue him, he allegedly assaulted the officer and resisted arrest.
Winter spent six months in jail last year for breaching release conditions related to marijuana trafficking charges. In January, he pleaded guilty to some of the drug charges and was sentenced to time-served and six months probation.
In addition to assault and resisting counts, he is charged with breaching his probation by not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour.
At a show cause hearing May 11, the defence successfully argued for his release on $1,000 bail. His next appearance is May 30.
